Alison Thomas is a Lecturer at the TU Dublin Conservatoire since 1990, having passed through the College of Music as a student of piano with Mrs. Ann Heneghan and Dr. Mary Lennon. She holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland, a B.A. Mod. (Music) from Trinity College, University of Dublin, as well as Fellowship and Licentiate Performance Diplomas from Trinity College, London. In addition to her teaching in the Department of Keyboard Studies at the Conservatoire, Alison assists with students from the departments of orchestral and vocal studies, coaching and accompanying student performances and exam recitals.
Alison has performed as a soloist and in collaboration with other musicians, chamber and choral groups throughout Ireland and abroad (UK, USA, Russia, and Europe). She was involved with the Research Music Foundation in Ireland / DIT Conservatory joint venture recording: Beethoven’s Irish Folksongs Revisited as well as the current John Field Nocturnes recording to mark the transition to the new Conservatoire campus in Grangegorman. Alison deputises regularly for the keyboard section in both the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and RTÉ Concert Orchestra with multiple performances and recordings on piano, celeste and other keyboard instruments. Highlights include the 2003 Irish premiere of Steve Reich’s Music for Eighteen Musicians.
A pianist with RTÉ Cor na n-Óg from 1999-2016, Alison is in demand as a choral accompanist and has worked with numerous groups including the National Chamber Choir and the Choral Societies of Tallaght, Carlow, Dun Laoghaire and Dublin Bach Singers. Additionally, she is engaged on a regular basis with the Association of Irish Choirs and Music Generation Ireland Offaly and Westmeath SingFest events with Greg Beardsell and as choral accompanist for Doreen Rao CME Institute workshops and performances. Most recently, Alison has been involved with the CMC Colleagues programme, connecting with CMC composers seeking to bring their music to a wider audience.
