Rachel Talbot is Head of Vocal, Opera and Drama Studies at TU Dublin Conservatoire. 

Rachel has appeared as soprano soloist in oratorio and with Early Music ensembles Il Rossignolo, Seanma, The Douglas Gunn Ensemble and Dublin Viols.  She has given recitals at Dún Laoghaire International Organ Festival, Richmond Recital Series London, Limerick Recital Series, Sligo Early Music Festival and Galway Early Music Festival. She is a former member of Chamber Choir Ireland, Opera Ireland Chorus and Christ Church Cathedral Choir and was vocal tutor to the choristers of St Patrick’s Cathedral Dublin for thirteen years.  She has participated in masterclasses with Emma Kirkby, Ian Partridge, Jill Feldman, Bernadette Greevy and Rudolf Piernay.

An honours graduate of Trinity College Dublin, she holds a PhD from TU Dublin.  Other professional qualifications include ALCM (vocal) and LTCL (recorder and piano).

Rachel is principal investigator on the Erasmus+ BRAVO project 'Celebrating the Bold and Resilient Achievements of Visionary European women through Opera'.  She is also principal investigator on the ARISE project ‘Documenting Operatic Innovation in 21st-century Ireland’.  Her other research interests include eighteenth-century Irish opera and French Art Song in the early twentieth century. 

Rachel is a member of the Society for Musicology in Ireland and has published articles in the Journal of the Society for Musicology in Ireland and the Encyclopedia of Music in Ireland.  She has directed student opera productions of works by Maurice Greene, Thomas Arne and Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre for Rathdown Opera Ensemble and works by Kane O’Hara and Maurice Ravel for TU Dublin Conservatoire.
