Irish Machine Vision and Image Processing Conference 2019
IMVIP 2019 is the annual conference of the Irish Pattern Recognition and Classification Society and the largest meeting of the computer vision research community across the island of Ireland. The conference attracts a large number of international participants and also includes several invited talks from leading experts in the field. Over the last five years, there has been increasing industry participation at the event; something organisers are happy to support again this year.
Conference attendees will learn about the latest innovations and ongoing research in the Irish machine vision community, enjoy many excellent opportunities to network with the key researchers in the country in this pivotally important sector. In addition, there will be ample opportunities for increased visibility within the academic community, with researchers, graduate students, and computer vision companies.
One of the keynote speakers at the IMVIP conference is David Moloney, Director of Machine Vision at Intel and a key mover at the intersection of image processing and Edge Computing. Among many other notable roles and achievements, David was the founder and CTO of Movidius, an Alumni of TU Dublin Hothouse.
Movidius is a highly successful Irish company who specialise in placing machine vision capability right next to the camera so that images could be pre-processed at the point of capture. This approach has several advantages, such as reducing the need to stream bulky video feeds into cloud storage for processing and interpretation.
Movidius technology has been adopted into INTEL Edge offerings. David will be talking about how INTEL Movidius technology such as Myriad2 and MyriadX can enable image recognition and deep learning to happen "at the network edge" with massive power savings and a lower cost while also reducing the network burden.
