TU Dublin Lecturer Presents Data on Gender and Transport at European Parliament
Dr Maria Chiara Leva, a lecturer in the School of Food Science and Environmental Health at TU Dublin and lead of the Human Factors in Safety and Sustainability Research Group, has participated in a session of the EU Parliament entitled “Overcoming gender-based barriers in transport and mobility”, which places gender equality firmly at the core of the future of sustainable transport in Europe.
The event, which had the objective of discussing how we could better integrate a gender perspective into transport policy-making, took place on 9TH March and presented research to encourage high-quality, accessible and affordable public transport for all. It aims to address barriers to gender-equal mobility as important, not just for the transport sector itself, but in enabling more equitable access for women to economic and political participation in society, from education to healthcare and employment.
Dr Leva presented findings from the DIAMOND project Lessons learned on setting a data collection campaign and policy application for a fairer transport system.
The event also included representatives from the POLIS Network, the European Transport Workers’ Federation and the Portuguese Railways Workers’ Committee.
