TU Dublin is Switching off for Halloween
Enjoy the mid term break and please turn off lights, computers and printers before leaving.
As many of us look forward to the mid term Halloween weekend, we are asking for your help to make sure no energy vampires are sucking on our power cables this Halloween break. They may look like innocent office equipment – computers, printers, and coffee machines – but a sinister secret lies behind those screens and cords. They continue to consume energy even when you think they’re turned off.
⚡️In September 2023 TU Dublin's energy usage was 1,817,118 kWh and in the same period in September 2024 it is estimated at 2,032,144 kWh* an 11.8% increase. ⚡️
Look out for small indicator lights. They are a tell-tale sign that the electrical equipment is in “standby” mode and not fully off. To vanquish the energy vampires, it's as simple as switching off or unplugging any electronic devices that are not in use and will not be needed over the weekend. To save energy, let's discuss with colleagues about turning off communal office equipment such as printers, copiers, and screen displays, or shared kitchen appliances like coffee machines, microwaves and water boilers.
