About TU Dublin's Green-Campus programme
TU Dublin has a long-running Green-Campus programme which dates back to 2014, which saw student- and staff-led Green-Campus Committees at Dublin Institute of technology (DIT), Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) and Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT).
TU Dublin successfully followed the Green-Campus 7 Steps approach and in 2023 was awarded the An Taisce Green Flag for all five campus locations.
TU Dublin plans to renew our Green Flag award at the end of 2026 focussing on Transport and Travel, Biodiversity, Litter and Waste, and Energy.
TU Dublin's Green-Campus programme works to advance environmental action projects across our campuses (e.g. Green-Campus Open Call projects) and supports environmental education by engaging our community in events like Climate Action Week and Green Week and by integrating campus environmental action into modules and programmes.
New Green-Campus structure
The operation of the Green-Campus Committee, and Green-Campus Network, will be supported by Societal Engagement and Sustainability Teams who will coordinate Green-Campus reporting to An Taisce, the delivery of events, and enable Green-Campus connectivity to Campus & Estates and other functional areas in TU Dublin.
TU Dublin's Green-Campus Committee
It is anticipated that a Green-Campus Committee made up of leadership roles will be formed from the wider Green Campus Network, across all TU Dublin locations, once Co-Chair roles are in place.
TU Dublin's Green-Campus Network
The Green-Campus network will be present at each campus location and students and staff are encouraged to sign up for membership.
Being a Green-Campus Co-Chair involves:
- Leading the animation and coordination of the Green-Campus Network
- being a member of University Sustainability Council (USC).
- Liaising with the Societal Engagement and Sustainability Team on matters related to TU Dublin Green-Campus, including budget allocation and associated admin.
- Chairing Green-Campus Network meetings and informing the Green-Campus Network members of updates – 2 per semester.
- Making recommendations for allocation of Green-Campus budget aligning with the Green-Campus 7 Steps approach.
- Annual review of (and update as necessary) Terms of Reference in collaboration with the Green-Campus Network, for approval by the USC.
What is involved with Green-Campus Network membership?
The new Green-Campus Network will be made up of students and staff from across the University. They will be welcome to attend meetings and activities arranged to support the Green-Campus Network.
A word of thanks to former Green-Campus Co-Chair
TU Dublin, together with the Green-Campus Committee, would like to extend our gratitude to the outgoing Green-Campus Co-Chair, Sarah Maher, who held the position since 2022 and led a successful programme which saw TU Dublin receiving the An Taisce Green Flag for all five campus locations in 2023.
