Chemistry labs in Tallaght achieve My Green Lab Platinum Certification

TU Dublin has been awarded a Platinum My Green Lab Certification for outstanding work in reducing the environmental impact of laboratory space and for successfully completing the My Green Lab Certification Programme as a Platinum Level Certified Lab. 

In December, 2022, TU Dublin's School of Chemical and Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences achieved a Platinum My Green Lab Certification for their Chemistry labs in Tallaght. Platinum Certification is the second highest ranking accreditation on the programme. After a thorough assessment of laboratory equipment, practices, and products, the chemistry labs in Tallaght achieved a certification assessment score of 74%, a 23% improvement from a baseline assessment score of 51%.

My Green Lab Membership

TU Dublin is an active member of the My Green Lab programme, and a My Green Labs working group is working to make impactful improvements to decrease the environmental footprint of laboratory-based work (undergraduate and research) at TU Dublin. With one Green Lab Certification achieved, TU Dublin is progressing with nine more My Green Labs applications for labs across the University.

My Green Lab Certification is a proven, scalable programme that helps organisations achieve sustainability goals. It offers tried-and-true methods rooted in science to dramatically reduce the environmental impact of laboratories without disrupting the critical work underway.

The My Green Labs working group is working to make impactful improvements to decrease the environmental footprint of laboratory-based work (undergraduate and research) at TU Dublin. This initiative supports and compliments many of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), in particular SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
