Chemical Sciences lab in Grangegorman achieves My Green Lab Gold Certification
In January 2024, TU Dublin's School of Chemical and Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences, achieved a 'Gold' My Green Lab Certification for their Chemical Sciences lab in Grangegorman. After a thorough assessment of laboratory equipment, practices, and products, the labs which are across CQ-415, CQ-416, CQ-418, CQ-420, CQ-422, CQ-423, CQ-424, and CQ-426 achieved a certification assessment score of 64%.
My Green Lab Membership
TU Dublin is an active member of the My Green Lab programme. With levels awarded ranging from Silver to Green, eight My Green Lab certifications have been achieved across the four Schools of the Faculty of Sciences & Health, incorporating 26 undergraduate lab spaces in total, and two have been awarded to Research Hubs. These awards recognise the achievements made in reducing the environmental impact of laboratory space and for successfully completing the My Green Lab Certification Programme.

Recognised by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign as a key measure of progress towards a zero-carbon future, The Green Lab Certification programme is considered the international gold standard for laboratory sustainability best practices around the world. My Green Lab Certification is a proven, scalable programme that helps organisations achieve sustainability goals. It offers tried-and-true methods rooted in science to dramatically reduce the environmental impact of laboratories without disrupting the critical work underway.

The My Green Labs working group is working to make impactful improvements to decrease the environmental footprint of laboratory-based work (undergraduate and research) at TU Dublin. This initiative supports and compliments many of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), in particular SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
