Building on from the experience of designing and building wheelchair costumes for children in LauraLynn Hospice as part of initial Fellowship funding, the project is now being rolled out to local secondary schools. A competition will be held in transition year classes to design a wheelchair costume. Each school will be allocated two TU Dublin student representatives.
A package of materials will be provided to cover the manufacture of the costume models and the prizes for the winning entrant.
The volunteering group, 3DAssist, in the School of Engineering, will then use these designs to develop a suite of costume designs that any child in a wheelchair can access through an open source website, and in the case of the children in LauraLynn hospice, can have made for them for their annual Halloween Parade.
This project involves a collaboration across the TU Dublin Schools of Mechanical Engineering, School of Marketing and Entrepreneurship and School of Media.
