Professional development workshops
TU Dublin GROWTHhub is hosting two online professional development workshops for postgraduate and early career researchers.
The focus of the workshops relates to supporting you as an early career researcher to make better focused decisions to support your professional planning. Both sessions will provide you with templates and processes that you can use to improve your personal and professional goal setting and plan for more impactful stakeholder engagement and networking.
Session 1: Goal Setting
In this session, participants will learn about the importance of goal setting for early career researchers. The session will cover various techniques for setting effective goals, including the SMART criteria (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound). Goals will also be discussed in a perspective of happiness and how professional goals fit in these calculations. Participants will also learn how to prioritise goals and develop a plan of action to achieve them.

Session 2: Stakeholder Engagement, Social Capital & Network
This session will focus on the importance of stakeholder engagement, social capital, and networking for early career researchers. Participants will learn about catering to different stakeholders involved in research, such as funders, policymakers, and the public. The session will also cover the concept of social capital and how it can be built and leveraged to advance research careers. Participants will learn practical networking strategies and tips for building professional relationships.

Both sessions are led by Professor Dana Redford. Dana is an internationally-recognised expert on entrepreneurship, innovation, sustainability and public policy. He is the Founder and President of the Policy Experimentation and Evaluation Platform, an NGO that supports evidence-based policymaking in education reform and economic development. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Institute of European Studies, UC-Berkeley. He has worked as an expert for the US Department of Commerce, the European Commission, the UN, the OECD and numerous European and African governments.
