ABOUT THE COLLABORATOR
Eddie O'Sullivan is a pioneering figure in Irish rugby. With an exceptional coaching career spanning over 35 years, he has led teams at all levels across Ireland, USA, and France, including five Rugby World Cup campaigns. Beyond his impressive rugby achievements, Eddie has successfully transferred his leadership expertise to academia as an educator at Brown University's Men's Rugby program, while also serving as a consultant and podcast host at Peaksport Ltd and conflict resolution as a mediator with MiddleMediation.ie, showcasing his versatility beyond sports.
ABOUT THE COLLABORATOR
In May 2024, Eddie O'Sullivan delivered an expert guest lecture to learners on the Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Analytics, Technology and Innovation at TU Dublin. This on-campus session at the School of Biological, Health and Sports Sciences brought his extensive coaching insights to a diverse cohort of industry professionals from organisations like Flutter Entertainment Plc, Stats Perform, Football Association of Ireland, World Rugby, Epic Global, and Badminton Ireland. Learners include developers, analysts, former athletes, sports managers, sports administrators and tech entrepreneurs – all of whom wish to further their knowledge of sports technology / analytics and network with other professionals in other areas.
Eddie's presentation focused on the effects digital innovation has had on coaching and on team and individual performance goal setting, in terms of KPIs; understanding skills metrics; and the importance of having access to dependable, objective skills data and knowing which data is relevant.
Launched in April 2024, this programme is the first of its kind in Ireland and is the result of a strategic collaboration between Technology Ireland DIGITAL Skillnet, SportsTech Ireland, TU Dublin Enterprise Academy and Technological University Dublin.
IMPACT AND BENEFITS
The TU Dublin Enterprise Faculty collaboration created value for all those involved. Students gained unique access to elite-level coaching perspectives on sports analytics, creating a bridge between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. Eddie enjoyed engaging with emerging industry talent and innovative thinking in sports technology.
