Matt Smith is Enterprise Partnership Lead for Learning Solutions in the Technological University Dublin Enterprise Academy. Prior to taking on this role he was senior lecturer in computing in the Faculty of Computing, Digital and Data. Before joining TU Dublin he was a researcher and lecturer in the UK at Aberdeen University, the Open University, Winchester University and Middlesex University.
Over the last 30 years Matt has worked with academic and enterprise partners in small and large projects across the UK, Ireland and the EU. He has focused in recent years on the design and evaluation of effective interactive computer systems, especially those supporting adult learning, and the exploitation of web, game and XR technologies. He has supported many Irish SMEs through Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher projects. Over the years Matt has been involved in a range of innovate eLearning projects, supporting both full-time on-campus university undergraduates, and part-time, remote enterprise learners.
Matt holds a Ph.D. in applied artificial intelligence and computational musicology, an M.Sc. in artificial intelligence, a B.A. (Hons) in Business Computing, and a P.G.Cert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.
To keep fit Matt has explored a range of sports and martial arts, and is a qualified basketball and Taekwon-Do referee. At present he is training towards a first degree black belt in Shotokan Karate.
