Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and TU Dublin to Host Information Session on New Accredited Level 8 Programme

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and the School of Media, TU Dublin are collaborating on the development of a new Level 8 programme for screen professionals to gain accredited recognition for their skills learned on-the-job.

Screen guild members and the wider screen industry community are invited to an informal information evening taking place at EQ002, East Quad, Grangegorman on Monday, 6th November 2023 at 8.00pm. The event is supported by the Enterprise Academy, funded by Convene, a Human Capital Initiative Pillar 3 project.

The proposed BA in Screen Industry Practice is an 18-month taught part-time programme, with a focus on critical reflection and self-directed learning. It will be delivered in a flexible mode to allow participants to continue in full-time careers.

Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning

Potential learners will gain entry to the programme via RPEL - Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning. This means that screen industry professionals who have not had the opportunity to engage in formal study to Level 7, but who can demonstrate, via a substantial portfolio, that they have achieved comparable learning in the workplace, will be able to enter the equivalent of the final year of a four-year degree programme.

The degree will be comparable to other BA honours programmes in TU Dublin and will be open to applicants across the screen industries: it is not a professional or department-specific qualification. The aim is to “level the playing field”, allowing experienced practitioners an accelerated route to an honours degree.
