Postgraduate Certificate in Brewing and Distilling
TU Dublin’s Postgraduate Certificate in Brewing and Distilling focuses on the technical aspects of brewing and distilling, and provides the opportunity to acquire hands-on practical experience in these disciplines, in our new micro-brewery/distillery at TU Dublin Grangegorman.
The programme was designed and developed by the Enterprise Academy at TU Dublin, as an opportunity for motivated staff to contribute to transforming TU Dublin's relationship with enterprise. The course is the first of several stackable programmes being developed by TU Dublin’s School of Food Science and Environmental Health that are flexible and accessible, and support sector growth.
Dr. Ciara Walsh, TU Dublin Enterprise Academy's Senior Talent Development Partner for Pharma, MedTech & Food was the driving force behind creating the new Postgraduate Diploma in Brewing and Distilling - the first taught postgraduate qualification in brewing and distilling in Ireland.
I was motivated to join the program because while I have an awful lot of experience this is the first time ever that there's been an opportunity in Ireland for people like me who haven't coming through the Brewing and Distilling Industry to get some qualifications without having to start at very start instead students can come in at a postgraduate level.

Be part of the thriving Brewing and Distilling sector
The Postgraduate Certificate gives an enormous advantage to people who either are in the industry and would like to broaden and deepen their knowledge or people who are outside the industry and actually want to get involved in what is an absolutely thriving Brewing and Distilling sector.
Students get an introduction into raw materials the principles of fermentation and distillation then they go on in the second semester and they get much more advanced science of Brewing and Distilling where they look at maturation quality control flavour development etc. in their products, packaging and kegging and bottling etc.
One aspect of the course that was very good was the networking. There were sixteen students from varied backgrounds and experiences. I came from a dairy background, others from the drinks business, and others from non-food backgrounds, so the networking part of it was fantastic.
Paul MacGabhann, Marketing and Brand Strategist & Graduate and award winning Graduate
