The Electromagnetic Orchestra - Sad Eyed Waltz

TU Dublin Access & Outreach Brings Music, Art, and Social Impact Together with ‘Sad Eyed Waltz’
TU Dublin’s Access and Outreach programme has once again demonstrated the power of creativity and collaboration with its latest project, The Electromagnetic Orchestra – Sad Eyed Waltz. This inspiring initiative brought together students from DEIS partner schools for a unique live music and visual arts performance at the TU Dublin Concert Hall, East Quad.
A Celebration of Music and Collaboration
In partnership with Kylemore College, Mercy Secondary, Killinarden Community School, St. Aidan’s Community School, and St. Mark’s Community School, students participated in a live filmed music performance workshop alongside a professional band and strings section.
Alan Kelly and Mona McMahon, musical directors of the Kylemore Music Centre string ensemble, expertly orchestrated the music for strings. The piece, Sad Eyed Waltz, was originally composed by Conor O’Malley from TU Dublin Access and Outreach. Ben Rawlins produced the sound, Eamon Fox from TU Dublin Conservatoire lit the scene, and Neil Cathcart from Technology Services provided further technical support.
Bringing the Sustainable Development Goals to Life Through Art
Beyond music, this project also engaged students in an art competition themed around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students were challenged to create visual interpretations of ‘What Does Peace and Justice Look Like to You?’, which formed a powerful backdrop for the performance.
Giving Back – Supporting UNICEF Ireland
Taking their mission beyond the stage, The Electromagnetic Orchestra has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support UNICEF Ireland. All proceeds will aid children in conflict zones.
Donate Here – Even the price of a cup of coffee can make a difference.
A Message of Hope and Unity
This project reminds us that history is still unwritten and that we all have a role to play in shaping a future built on peace and justice. Through music, art, and community action, TU Dublin and its partners continue empowering young voices and fostering change.
