Module Aims: To promote a basic understanding of group dynamics and cohesion. To understand the concept of leadership in sport settings. To provide a broad understanding of the role of group communication systems. To appreciate the relationship between exercise and psychological wellbeing. To understand substance abuse and its affects. To provide an understanding of children’s development through sport. To provide practical experience of coaching training sessions at primary school level. To understand the concept of exercise adherence and relevant strategies.
Section 1 – Theoretical Element
Group Cohesion Group and Team Dynamics Communication Injuries and Psychology Burnout Addictive Behaviours Exercise Behaviours and Adherence Exercise and Psychological Well Being Aggression in Sport Character Development
Section 2 – Practical Element
Individual Practical Sessions in primary/secondary schools or a prior approved alternative organisation.
Aside from formal aspects of lecturing, students will be expected to work in groups and contribute to group and class activities.
