Tourism is one of the world’s largest industries worldwide and is forecasted to be one of the fastest-growing global sectors, with exciting career opportunities.
This programme focuses broadly on business and management subjects and more specifically on digital tourism marketing, to reflect the changing needs of the industry in light of technological advances.
A suite of modules has been designed on the marketing and management of tourism enterprises such as visitor attractions, destination management companies, tour operators, travel agencies, hotels, conference centres and management bureaux.
You’ll acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of tourism and marketing practices, gaining an understanding of the operation of the tourism industry and the use of digital tools for tourism marketing.
Since European languages are becoming increasingly important in the world of work, you can choose to study one European language.
There is a six-month work placement in Year 3. The programme offers students excellent networking opportunities so that they can make potentially career-opening contacts.
Study Abroad Opportunities
You’ll have the opportunity to study abroad as part of the Erasmus programme. Our students have undertaken exchanges in partner universities in France, Germany, Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Hungary and Finland. Many of our partners offer study programmes through English.
On graduation, you may proceed to postgraduate studies leading to the award of MSc, MPhil or PhD at research institutes and universities worldwide.
The programme is designed to enable graduates to gain employment in challenging positions in tourism marketing and sales roles. Graduates with marketing competence and digital expertise can expect to find employment in marketing in tourism enterprises such as tourism co-operatives, national and regional tourism organisations, hotels, visitor centres, online booking companies, travel sector, self-employment, technology management, community development, and public sector support.

The importance of networking was drilled into us… Only now I appreciate the importance of this as I liaise with the Golf and Leisure Manager of Roganstown, the MD of Initiative Vacations, the Product Manager of Sunway, all of whom I studied with in TU Dublin Cathal Brugha Street. Not only did I make friends for life, we now work together on a regular basis. My first job after graduation was in an online travel company where my passion for internet marketing started. My biggest achievement to date was being named Entrepreneur of the Year 2009.
I decided to do the Tourism Marketing course because there seemed to be a great mix between business, marketing and tourism itself. The lecturers in TU Dublin were definitely helpful, the tutors have great experience themselves so the knowledge we gained was extremely valuable and easily applicable in the workplace.
