Course Title: Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in International Hospitality and Tourism Management
Do you seek an exciting career in the international hospitality and tourism industry? This course can turn you into a business-ready graduate, with special knowledge and skills in tourism, sales and marketing entrepreneurship, human resources, communication and IT. And you will acquire real-world experience thanks to the six-month professional internship at home or abroad.
This course was developed in partnership with industry representative associations and leading practitioners from the food, leisure and business tourism sectors. It’s a fully contemporary, practical curriculum focused on three aspects of international best practice: operations, communications and management. You will study a range of business and cultural topics and develop essential business skills in tourism, sales and marketing, food and beverage, entrepreneurship, human resources, IT, teamwork and problem-solving.
You can study French, German or Spanish to maximise your employability upon graduation. You will also learn about web design and e-business, media planning, procurement, food and drink tourism, corporate social responsibility, and sustainable tourism policy and planning. This innovative course is your starting point for a rewarding career in the international hospitality and tourism industry.
Study Abroad Opportunities
Students can complete a semester abroad under Erasmus programme.
Work Placement
In Year 3, you’ll undertake a placement in the hospitality and tourism sector, or complete an international work placement abroad.

To qualify for Advanced Entry applicants must be currently studying, completing, or have successfully completed, studies at Level 6, 7 or 8 in a Higher Education Institution (HEI) or an equivalent, in a related area. You must demonstrate by providing transcripts of results that you have achieved the learning outcomes for each stage you wish to advance past, for example:
- To enter Year 2 via Advanced Entry, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Year 1.
- For entry to Year 3, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Years 1 and 2.
- For entry to Year 4, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Years 1, 2, and 3.

When I was in school, I was told that the sector I would be most suited to is hospitality, after a careers assessment test. Back then, I had many sectors I thought I wanted to be involved in, such as digital media and nutrition – which is why I tried both out in two post leaving cert courses. Between these courses I went travelling to New Zealand, which opened my eyes to what the tourism and hospitality sector really has to offer. I realised how broad the sector is, how connected the people were and the range of opportunities that were available, along with the fact that I could travel and work almost anywhere in the world with this degree. With this thought in mind I finished my post leaving cert course and applied to TU Dublin Tallaght for the International Hospitality and Tourism Management – Bachelors Honours Degree. I chose this course originally because I thought the broad range of modules covered many different areas in this sector and I was excited to find discover the areas I was most interested in. I am happy I went along with my gut because since beginning this course I have learned skills and knowledge in many areas such as Accounting, Sales, Kitchen & Restaurant, Management, Media, Entrepreneurship, Aviation, Food & Beverage, Economics, Law, Policy & Planning and so on… which helps us not only understand each area but also has broadened our career opportunities for the future.
For my work placement, I had the opportunity to work in a Doyle Collection Hotel, in Front Office and the Sales department – both of which I maintained a permanent position after work placement. This gave me the opportunity to gain more practical experience in the hospitality sector – the best thing was being able to connect the theory we learned in class with what I was practically learning in the hotel. This course creates such a social setting within class group tasks, team building activities and group assignments, which is good because in hospitality and tourism the concept of networking, teamwork and community is very important.
Deciding what to study after school can be so tricky, you are giving so many options and are still trying to decide what you want to be when you grow up. The good thing about this course is you can choose between so many careers, in a variety of sectors, with this one degree. This gives you the opportunity to really explore into what you really are interested in. My advice would be to keep an open mind, look at the modules – there may be some you think you’ll love and others not so much but the funny thing is once you are in the class learning the content, you may be surprised to how much your original opinion changes. This course helps you to realise your full potential and your future goals while improving your skills, knowledge and personal experience in the sector.
This course has really supported me and helped encourage my career choice while allowing me to create friendships that will last forever, in our personal and work lives. The lecturers have been so supportive & caring and have helped us with every step of the way, while encouraging us to challenge ourselves and find our own interests – it is important to stick with what you like as everyone is so different. I had originally applied for the Ordinary Degree (Level 7) and decided to keep going to complete my Honours Degree (Level 8) as it offers many more career and educational opportunities. From someone that was unsure what they wanted to do when they were older, after completing this course, I now know, and I am so happy I had the opportunity to take part in it.
