Do you want to be proficient in electronic engineering and equipped with the professional engineering skills and knowledge that prepares you for employment or further study?
The programme focuses on hardware and data communications design. You’ll develop the skills you need to work in all aspects of the ICT industry, including electronics, information technology, telecommunications, and computer network engineering, or you can progress to an honours degree programme. Our graduates are ideal candidates to fill many different roles in Ireland’s technically advanced industries. In the first two years, you’ll gain a strong foundation in electronics, computer and communication engineering, and computing applications. Year 3 introduces specialist design-based modules in communications, computing networks, digital circuit design, control systems and the fabrication of microelectronic devices. In addition, you’ll take an Integrated Project module over both semesters. You’ll work with lecturers on real problems from industry so as to develop professional engineering abilities. You’ll spend around 60% of your time working with advanced equipment and software development systems in our laboratories. On completing the programme, you’ll be skilled at multitasking and capable of leading a multifunctional team in a technical environment. You will also have a strong knowledge of electronic hardware and embedded computing technology, and display excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
A graduate in B.Eng in Electronic Engineering will be able to understand, assemble and test complex electronic systems and equipment; can assist a professional electronic engineer in refining product designs and ensure they work as efficiently as possible, and usually works with teams of other professionals to build and test products. The B.Eng in Electronic Engineering gave me the opportunity to work in high-technology manufacturing. I am now involved in technical support for complex manufacturing systems and currently lead a team of technicians.
I successfully completed the B.Eng in Electronic Engineering and my results allowed me to progress for a further year to the B.Eng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering.
Staff and technicians in the Department of Electronic Engineering were always very helpful and supportive to me when I was a student.
