Course Title: Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Services Engineering
The field of Electrical Services Engineering and Sustainable Design incorporates engineering disciplines employed both in modern buildings and the retrofit and upgrade of facilities.
The disciplines covered by this course include environmental control and communication, power distribution, standby generation, lighting, emergency services (lighting and fire), access control, data services, automation, building management systems and many more.
There is plenty of scope for exercising innovation, creativity and flair when using new technologies to solve everyday problems.
In the course, you’ll learn about green building technology, efficient use of energy and sustainability, refrigeration, heating, ventilation & air-conditioning, renewable plant technologies, and project management.
Subjects include energy and the environment, electrical services design, computer applications, renewable energy plant, life protection systems, building information modelling, sustainable building engineering, industrial/building automation, and electrical services design.
In a world where electrical and electronic engineering empowers the way we live, and is inextricably linked to almost everything we do, where does Electrical Services Engineering fit? This video offers some context…

We are currently closed for Advanced Entry Applications. The courses that will be open for advanced entry will be listed on the CAO website in January 2025. For information on how to make an Advanced Entry application, please visit our CAO Hub. If this course opens for advanced entry, the following will apply.
To qualify for Advanced Entry applicants must be currently studying, completing, or have successfully completed, studies at Level 6, 7 or 8 in a Higher Education Institution (HEI) or an equivalent, in a related area. You must demonstrate by providing transcripts of results that you have achieved the learning outcomes for each stage you wish to advance past, for example:
- To enter Year 2 via Advanced Entry, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Year 1.
- For entry to Year 3, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Years 1 and 2.
- For entry to Year 4, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Years 1, 2, and 3.
If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as detailed on our website.
If you reach the appropriate level in final examinations and meet certain subject prerequisites, can progress to honours degree courses at Year 3 in TU Dublin. Students normally progress to the one-year advanced entry course TU820 Electrical Services and Energy Management.
