Course Description
Companies spend vast sums of money investing in their infrastructure to ensure the smooth running of facilities. Key to the success is the electrical, lighting and energy design of these facilities that ensure smooth operation with no interruption to their core business activities.
Graduates of this course work in design teams to deliver electrical services to buildings and play an integral role in the operation and management of the energy facilities.
You’ll be equipped with the fundamental engineering, management and design skills you need to design electrical services for facilities and manage the energy consumption in facilities.
You’ll gain a thorough knowledge of electrical services engineering, which includes safety, power distribution and information network systems, cabling/wiring systems, energy management systems and the application of such systems to industries such as data centers, manufacturing, large commercial, multinational facilities, etc.
Management of facilities is taught to the highest international standards to ensure graduates can operate and maintain large facilities.
On graduation, you may proceed to postgraduate studies leading to the award of MSc, MPhil or PhD at research institutes and universities worldwide.

Work Placement
You will undertake a work placement in Year 3.
Study Abroad Opportunities
In Year 3, Semester 2, you will have an opportunity to study in a European University under the Erasmus course.

To qualify for Advanced Entry applicants must be currently studying, completing, or have successfully completed, studies at Level 6, 7 or 8 in a Higher Education Institution (HEI) or an equivalent, in a related area. You must demonstrate by providing transcripts of results that you have achieved the learning outcomes for each stage you wish to advance past, for example:
- To enter Year 2 via Advanced Entry, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Year 1.
- For entry to Year 3, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Years 1 and 2.
- For entry to Year 4, you must demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for Years 1, 2, and 3.

Cristina Coleman-Kenny graduated in 2012. She began her career as an electrician and went on to study this course. She started as a graduate engineer for ESB International in 2009. She is a HV substation designer and has designed a number of 110/38 kV & MV AIS and GIS substations for ESB. She is also acting as Owners Engineer on behalf of ESB Networks for the construction of an Independent Processing Plant (IPP) as part of the Dublin Waste incinerator development.
I graduated from Electrical Services and Energy Management in 2014 and joined PM Group in Dublin. Job opportunities were plentiful upon completion of the Level 8 in Electrical Services and Energy Management. I am employed as a graduate electrical engineer and I am currently enrolled in a part-time Master’s Degree while working for PM Group. Sectors I currently work in include Data Centre/Mission Critical Facilities, Waste to Energy Facilities, Med Tech and Pharma Projects.
