This 30 ECTS CPD award is designed for staff involved in teaching in Higher Education who want to develop their teaching practice, to become a more effective and competent lecturer and to obtain a major teaching award on the NQAI Framework of Qualifications. The Postgraduate Diploma builds upon the Postgraduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching and is a heavily practice based course that aims to enhance a participant's continuing professional development, critical reflection and a scholarly approach to the implementation and evaluation of a range of new, inclusive and digitally enhanced teaching practices. Through varied forms of strategies, methods, tools and working practices, aligned to the new University Educational Model, participants will explore and critically evaluate practice and convention in learning and teaching both from a generic and discipline-specific perspective.

The minimum entry requirements for this course would be a Postgraduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching.

The course comprises a series of core and optional modules and will typically take up to one year to complete (September to May). Teaching methods will include a range of interactive, inclusive learner centered individual and collaborative activities that encourage participants to develop an understanding of relevant educational theories, develop research informed professional practices and their skills as a reflective practitioner.

Participation on this course involves attendance for a half day a week – usually Tuesday morning.

Applications will open in February 2025.
