This programme will be offered on a full-time basis (mid-September to end May). It is designed for honours (2H2 or higher) graduates of disciplines other than Finance. It is a conversion programme and no previous knowledge of finance is required or assumed.
It is aimed at those who may wish to pursue careers in the Financial Services Sector in Ireland and internationally. The Expert Group on Future Skills Needs in its 2007 report has identified this sector as having a shortage of skilled staff and as a result this programme was developed to enable graduates to develop the skills to work in this exciting market. The programme also acts as a qualifier for postgraduate programmes at Masters level in Finance and allied disciplines.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Finance is an intensive one year full-time programme for non-finance graduates wishing to pursue a career in the financial services industry or a career in the finance function. Career opportunities include Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, Investment and Risk Management. The programme offers graduates an excellent grounding for further postgraduate studies in Finance. Graduates of the programme are now working in Ireland, the UK, Europe and in North America.
It is suited to graduates with an interest in developing analytical and practical skills in preparation for a career in Finance and Banking. Graduates from all backgrounds are considered and no previous knowledge of finance is assumed. A competence in quantitative skills, though not essential, would be an advantage.

I was a student of the 2013-2014 Post Graduate Diploma in Finance. I finished my undergraduate in 2010 in International Business with Spanish. I then worked in Business development with a Multinational for three years. Although I enjoyed the job I believed I needed to become more specialized to advance in my career. I knew that with a Finance background I could add several new strings to my bow. Therefore, having very little Finance / Accounting knowledge I decided to take a year out to do the PG Dip in Finance. This was a great stepping stone to enable me to gain technical financial knowledge that can be applied to day to day business. The PG Dip gives you a solid grounding on various topics of Finance. Finance is a pillar of any business and having a Finance background will stand to you. I now have a Commercial Finance role with a multinational company in Brazil. I balance the Finance and Commercial side of the job with ease.
