The MSc Education is a part time taught programme that is completed over 2 years.

This new course is designed to meet the changing needs of staff at different stages of their career path within the context of a national framework that recognises a range of different professional development activities (National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, 2016).

The aim of the TU Dublin MSc Education programme is to equip participants with the requisite advanced professional knowledge, understanding and skills to take a competent and proactive role in the development of high quality curricula, and to carry out education research using traditional and emerging research designs. These to be informed by a critical awareness of developments at the forefront of policy and practice in higher education and eLearning.

The course aim to enable the applicant to examine, analyse and capture their journey as professionals in developing the skill and knowledge of their discipline in practice as well as their developments as practitioners and researchers within a professional learning community. By means of applied research projects leading to theses and peer-reviewed journal articles, this programme also leads participants to publish their research and contribute to the development of their field of practice in education.

Participants are supported throughout the course to gain new insights and to apply and extend their knowledge. Key features of the programme include:

  • Focus - participants will have the opportunity to choose a pathway of study that aligns to their research and career interests

  • Feedback – participants are supported with both formative and summative feedback and will also be encouraged to develop their own skills in self and peer review on the programme

  • Flexibility – the course is structured in a way to provide choice and diversity for participants in the pathways of study but also in the delivery of modules (classroom-based, blended and online) and the range of assessment approaches employed
