International Accounting is a specialist postgraduate degree that offers an accelerated yet comprehensive pathway for individuals from diverse academic backgrounds to transition to a career in accounting. Designed by a team of expert academics with extensive experience of the accounting profession, the course is suited to both recent graduates and seasoned professionals looking to pursue a career as a professional accountant.

Delivered by TU Dublin’s School of Accounting, Economics and Finance, the programme is customised to meet the ever-changing needs of the accounting profession. Beginning at a foundational level, this one-year full-time programme offers applicants accounting knowledge and skills equivalent to that obtained by graduates of 3- & 4-year undergraduate degrees. The course is centred around maximising exemptions from professional body examinations and preparing graduates to enter trainee accountant positions. The course content and delivery reflect the educational requirements of the leading professional accountancy bodies and is periodically reviewed to ensure our graduates possess the knowledge and skills to thrive in the profession. The taught components of this programme are shared with the PG Diploma in Accounting.

An honours bachelor degree (2.2 or higher) with accounting constituting a major part. Those who have made timely progress in their professional examinations may also be considered.

If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as detailed on our website. Applicants for this course should have a minimum IELTS (Academic Version) English Proficiency of 6.5 overall (or equivalent) with nothing less than 6 in each component.

Note: Due to the considerable competition for our postgraduate courses satisfying the minimum entry requirement is not a guarantee of a place. Depending on the course of study applications will be assessed based on your academic grades and may also take into account your work/life experience. Applicants may also be required to attend for interview for specific courses.

Most graduates will initially embark on qualifying as a professional accountant. Following this opportunities exist in both professional offices and elsewhere.

Graduates of the MBS in Accounting (International) can obtain exemptions from all CA Proficiency 1 (CAP1) examinations of Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI), and exemptions from all Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills examinations of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) (subject to performance in specific modules on the course). Graduates overwhelmingly enter training contracts with accountancy firms (including “The Big Four”) or in the finance departments of some of the largest multinational corporations operating in Ireland. Following appropriate training, most graduates pursue careers as corporate / public / government accountants, financial analysts, tax consultants etc.

This course is delivered over 12 months, with two taught semesters and a research assignment to be handed in by September.
