Course Title: English as a Foreign Language
This course is aimed at non-native English speakers looking to enhance and develop their English language skills (i.e. reading, writing, listening, and speaking) for personal and professional purposes. This course is designed for those looking to gain a formal qualification. The course provides general preparation and guidance for students who wish to sit either the IELTS exam in Academic English or the IETS exam in general Training.
All applicants must have a good level of English and complete a placement assessment to identify their current level of English.
The Higher Certificate in English as a Foreign Language is an internationally recognised qualification and may be accepted as evidence of having successfully completed a recognised examination in English competency. Successful completion of the course meets the English Competency entry requirements for entry onto other courses at TU Dublin Tallaght.
The students will learn how to express themselves more clearly and coherently by using language appropriate to their level.
The students will be introduced to fundamental grammatical concepts which, when applied, will enable them to converse accurately.
The students will be able to better understand authentic listening texts such as news stories broadcast on the television and/or radio. The students will have a heightened awareness of Irish culture which will allow them to engage in conversation about the Irish way of life.
This course runs over two semesters and classes are delivered one evening per week (Monday or Tuesday) from 6.30 – 9.30p.m.
