An introduction to Whole Life Design and data driven evidence based building design. The module covers the key dimensions of designing for durability, adaptability, flexibility and ultimately the circular economy. It puts data and measurement at the heart of the architectural design decision making process.
Using a case study, the student carries out a series of analytical exercises, auditing them for adaptability, shearing layers, durability, Embodied and Operational Carbon. The student is also introduced to the role of Post Occupancy Analysis as a design tool (design out the problem).
Applicants should hold:
- A degree in a cognate discipline.
Monday afternoons, 2 contact hours per week (20 in total), plus self directed learning. At the end of this module, students will attend a half day seminar.
