This single subject micro credential in Cyber Security addresses industry requirements for specialised courses to up-skill and reskill employees, while offering progression opportunities to higher qualifications. This 10 credit award covers digital forensics. The content is delivered synchronously, online, and is also recorded. 1 to 1 support is available outside of scheduled class times.

Applicants should hold:

  • Second Class Honours Grade 2 (GPA 2.5 or equivalent), in a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computing (NFQ Level 8), or equivalent qualification. The acceptance of candidates with Third Class Honours degrees and appropriate work experience and industrial certification on this course will be allowed provided there is evidence that the candidate can cope with the learning objectives of the course.

Graduates with this award can apply state of art digital forensic methodology, skills and techniques to an incident involving digital evidence. This includes evaluating computer filesystems and manually decode digital evidence. Graduates can also review the legal considerations when dealing with digital forensics evidence and maintain its integrity; and write a digital forensics report using a realistic professional template. 

Upon successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

  • Appraise the fundamental legal considerations when dealing with digital forensics evidence and demonstrate how to apply appropriate measures to maintain evidence integrity.

  • Evaluate computer filesystems and demonstrate how to apply the low level filesystem knowledge to manually decode digital evidence.

  • Research how to apply the digital forensic methodology, skills, and techniques to investigate an incident involving digital evidence.

  • Demonstrate how to write a digital forensics report using a realistic professional template and style.

  • Graduates with this award can apply state of art digital forensic methodology, skills and techniques to an incident involving digital evidence. Year 1 Semester 1

  • Digital Forensics

4 contact hours per week and additional self directed learning.

The course will run one evening a week, 6pm to 10pm, from September 2024 to January 2025, and additional self directed learning.

Assessment will be in the form of 100% continuous assessment including practical assessments, online class test and reports.
