This postgraduate certificate (30 ECTS) in science in Machine Learning targets professional computer science and data science practitioners wishing to level up in advanced machine learning. The content to be offered is based on the MSc in Computing (Data Science) with changes to assessment modes in some modules. The choice of modules balances the need for fundamental machine learning theory and applied practice using state-of-the-art technologies and real-world use cases.

The programme had been codeveloped in partnership with Workday. They and other industry partners have expressed the urgent need to reskill their technical staff and company leadership in the emerging areas of data science and artificial intelligence.

Entry onto the programme would be open to applicants with Level 8 qualifications in numerate disciplines and who have professional experience in computer programming and data analysis. To facilitate working professionals participating in the programme, the contact hours are reduced compared to a full-time master’s programme with the expectation of more self-directed study and learning.

Applicants should hold:

  • BSc (Hons) in Computer Science or a suitable related discipline at 2.1 level or at 2.2 level with at least 2 years of relevant post graduation experience;

OR

  • Practitioners in the area with a Bachelors (Honours 2.2. or better) in another discipline with at least 2 years experience and with a significant working knowledge relevant data science and machine learning;

    OR

  • Any other relevant qualification as recommended by the Admissions and Exemptions committee.

TBC

The course consists of 1 timetabled day of 4 contact hours per week, plus 11 hours of self directed learning.
