Plastics and other non-biodegradable synthetic food packing materials derived from petroleum products cause problems in waste disposal. Packaging films made up of biodegradable polymers have arisen as an alternative that meets the growing demand for sustainability and environmental safety. Advancement in food packaging research leads to the development of biodegradable/active/intelligent packaging systems with numerous properties such as oxygen scavengers, carbon-dioxide generating systems, antimicrobial active packaging, moisture control packaging, ethylene scavengers, biosensors, and bio-labels for various food products (fruits, vegetables, metal, and cheese, etc). Biodegradable polymer materials are widely used as a food-contact material because of their good mechanical, barrier properties and provide low harmful effects to the environment. This project aims to develop a sustainable biodegradable film based on natural bioactive for food packaging.
