The Smart Spaces and Systems theme seeks to make the environments we inhabit responsive and human-centred through the application of technology.
The people-oriented focus of tPOT motivates our research into smart spaces and systems to enhance the quality of life and well-being of individuals by focusing on the interaction between humans, their surroundings, and the technology that supports them.
Our research into smart systems and spaces investigates the dynamic and sometimes complex interactions between humans and their environments—both physical and digital. This encompasses both human environment interaction and human computer interaction and explores how technology can be both a mediator and barrier in these interactions.
Key overlapping topics of interest that are covered within this theme are:
- Assistive technology for independent living
- Smart health age-friendly environments (SHAFE)
- Digital skills and digital inclusion
- E-health (incorporating wearables, patient-generated health data, electronic health records, telemonitoring, digital wellness and precision medicine)
