All building/maintenance work undertaken by contractors/service providers on behalf of a School/Function must be carried out under Campus & Estates Office “Permit-to-Work” system.
This is required where there is a need to co-ordinate and control different activities and individuals. It is a means of achieving effective control of a system through formal written documentation. Examples where it is required include:
• All repair, maintenance or cleaning work in potentially dangerous areas;
• Any mechanical, electrical or process isolation procedures;
• Any atmospheric monitoring for dangerous fumes presence;
• Hot works;
• Working at height;
• Confined space entry.
The Campus & Estates Office prepare and facilitate all Permit–to-work systems for contractors and service providers.
All contractors working on campus are required to complete the e-learning contractor’s induction course.
