Course Objectives:

To give participants an opportunity to prepare for interviews, anticipate the questions and improve their interview question answering technique.  This is an interactive workshop where partiicpants will get a chance to plan, construct and practise answering a range of competency questions and traditional interview questions.

 

Course Content:

  • What is a competency based interview and why are they used?
  • Identifying and examining the competencies required for the roles under review.
  • How to ensure your answers on the competency based application form are providing reviewers with the evidence they need.
  • What are the elements of a "good" example when answering a competency question?
  • Utilising the STARR method to structure interviw answers.
  • How do interviewers score interview candidates?
  • How to prepare for the presentaton section of the interview.
  • First Impressions - how they are formed and how you can ensure yours is a positive one.
  • Techniques to help you perform at your best - reducing interview nerves and avoiding "blanking"
  • In-workshop practice and feedback on how to prepare and delvier andswers to competency questions.
  • How to approach the typical open questions, e.g. "Tell me About Yourself" "Talk me through your application/ career to date" and "Is there anything else you would like to add"
