Gabriele Baldissone has a ten-year research career at the Politecnico di Torino in the field of process industry safety. His career started with a grant for CFD modeling of open field releases of flammable gases. In the following years he worked on the project “Analysis of INAIL databases” funded by INAIL (Italian Accident Prevention Agency), in this project Baldissone analyzed accident databases using AI technologies to identify the most relevant accident dynamics.
In the next years Baldissone have participated at TOSCA (Total Operation management for Safety Critical Activities) project financed by the European Union within the 7th Framework program. In this context, he applied the dynamic decision-making risk analysis methodology by defining a case study concerning a process plant for the production of formaldehyde by partial oxidation of methanol. The methodology used requires integrating a probabilistic logical model of the operation of the system with a specific application and a phenomenological model using the Matlab program. The probabilistic logical model is used in order to identify all the possible sequences of events that can happen. Also identifying the probabilities of occurrence of the different scenarios. Instead, the phenomenological model evaluates the effect of deviations from normal conditions by evaluating the extent of the consequences. During this period he also participated in the organization of a data collection campaign relating to unsafe behavior in an important industrial reality. He subsequently participated in the analysis of the data collected in order to find recurring indications. From the data collected he participated in the development of a model, based on fuzzy logic, to analyze the causes of the unsafe behaviors detected and identify prevention and protection measures.
Baldissone participated at the Italian national research program “Centre of Studies on Culture of Safety and Prevention”. In this context he proceeded to analyze the different maintenance strategies with particular attention to applications in the process industry. Up to the development of a risk-based methodology for comparing different maintenance alternatives.
Ha have work also in the Safe extension of the useful life of plants and equipment”, in this project he have developed a methodology for evaluate the additional risk connected to the deferred maintenance.
Between the 2018 and the 2020 he have work in the program “Safety 4.0” co-financed by the FCA. In this project he have analyzed the implication of the adoption the Industry 4.0 technology on the safety. In this project he have developed a methodology to assess the risk connected whit the use of the Augmented Reality in the work environment.
Form the 2020 Baldissone as work in the Politecnico di Torino as technician and data analyst. In the last years he have collaborated at the European project CISC, in that project he have developed the plant control interface used in the operator test, he have developed also the plat digital twin used for modelled the plant behavior in the interface. In the same period he have worked at the develop of the soft sensor to measure the composition of the atmosphere in the tank contain flammable liquid. The soft sensor developed are based on the AI technology.
From 2020 to 2023 Baldissone served as Temporary lecturer at the Politecnico di Torino for the courses "Advanced Control/Environmental Safety Technique" and "Advanced Control/Environmental Safety Technique" within the Master's Degree Course in Chemical Engineering and Sustainable Processes.
From 2017 to 2023 He served as Temporary lecture at the Università degli studi di Torino (from the 2020 to 2023 through the agreement with the ILO) for the course "Risk from gas and vapour" courses within the second year of the Degree Course in Prevention Techniques in the Environment and Workplaces.
