We offer a number of undergraduate programmes at Level 6 (Higher Certificate), Level 7 (ordinary degree), and Level 8 (honours degree). We also offer full-time and part-time modes of delivery on a number of these programmes.
There are a number of Level 6 programmes offered in the School as follows.
Code | Programme Title | Location | Mode | Duration | Contact Person |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
TU003 | Higher Certificate in Electronic Engineering (FLASHE) | Tallaght | Part-time | 2-3 year | james.wright@tudublin.ie |
TU605 | Higher Certificate in Electronic and Information Engineering | Tallaght | Full-time | 2 years | james.wright@tudublin.ie |
DT096 | Apprenticeship Electrical Update Phase 6 | Grangegorman | Part-time | 2 years | joseph.kellegher@tudublin.ie |
DT098 | Higher Certificate Power Plant Technology (Plant Operations) | Grangegorman | Part-time | 2 years | michael.conlon@tudublin.ie |
DT099 | Higher Certificate Power Plant Technology (Plant Management) | Grangegorman | Part-time | 2 years | michael.conlon@tudublin.ie |
The School offers a number of Level 7 programmes as follows.
Graduates from these programmes are eligible for advanced entry into a number of the Level 8 programmes. For example, many of the graduates from TU705 and TU714 continue their engineering education through advanced entry into the Level 8 programme TU821, while graduates from TU706 tend to continue with advanced entry into TU802. Graduates from the TU716 programme are eligible for the one-year Level 8 programme TU819.
Entry to these Level 7 programmes is via the CAO (for EU students) or the International Office (for non-EU students). In the case of the programmes TU705, TU706 and TU714, applicants can apply directly to the programmes or alternatively can apply to the programme TU709 BEngTech Engineering (General Entry) and then move on to TU705, TU706 or TU714 in Year 2. This alternative route is intended for applicants who might be unsure as to what these different areas of engineering are all about and would like some more time to learn more about the area before making their final decision.
We would recommend that CAO applicants include TU705, TU706 and TU714, together with TU709 in the Level 7 section of their CAO application.
Students can also seek Advanced Entry into the second year of TU716.
The School offers a number of Level 8 programmes as follows.
* Applicants are required to a hold a NFQ Level 7 in a computer networking or engineering or cognate scientific discipline or equivalent.
** Applicants are required to hold a NFQ Level 7 Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electrical Services Engineering (3-years) or equivalent.
On the Grangegorman campus, we offer two BE degrees, Level 8 professional engineering programmes. These are the BE in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the BE in Computer and Communications Engineering where the two programmes are managed under the single TU821 code. Both degrees are accredited by Engineers Ireland. Entry to TU821 is via the programme TU805 BE in Engineering (General Entry). We also welcome Mature and non-standard applicants.
Students enter TU821 upon successful completion of TU805. After a common second year, students then select their choice of major streams for their third and final year. There are 5 major streams available:
- Communications Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Control Engineering
- Electrical Power Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
Students need to select two of these major streams. Students who select Communications Engineering and Computer Engineering graduate with the BE in Computer and Communications Engineering. Students taking any other combination of the major streams graduate with the BE in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Both degress include a 6-month industrial placement in the third year of the programme.
Students with appropriate qualifications (or relevant prior learning) can also apply for Advanced Entry into the second or third year of TU821.
The programme TU819 is a one-year BSc programme for graduates of TU716 and other suitably qualified applicants.
The programmes in Electrical Services and Energy Management (i.e. TU802, TU025 and TU820) have been developed in conjunction with the Energy Institute and industry. Students on this programme work on the design of electrical distribution, lighting, intelligent buildings, energy and data communications systems. These programmes are accredited by the Energy Institute.
