Strategic Environmental Assessments
TU Dublin (formerly DIT), in association with McCabe Durney Barnes and the Dublin Energy Lab completed an EPA funded project (under the Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for Environment programme (STRIVE)) which comprised the completion of Guidelines for preparing the Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) that are required for planning applications for Energy Projects.
The role of the Guidelines is to integrate environmental consideration at an early stage into plans and programmes with a view to promoting sustainable development and provide for a high level of protection of the environment. The project also includes guidance on Appropriate Assessments (AAs) which are concerned with the avoidance of adverse effects resulting from plans and projects on Natura 2000 sites and seek to maintain the integrity of such designations.
The project culminated with the publication of a good practice guide for AA and SEA in the energy sector.
