Qualifications Summary: BBLS, MBS, PhD
I have been a lecturer in Dublin Institute of Technology/TU Dublin since 1998, mostly teaching modules in strategic marketing and strategic management to final year undergraduate students, and on postgraduate and executive education programmes. I have a particular interest in teaching with case studies and online simulations and have been awarded a number of teaching awards for this work. I have been a visiting lecturer in business schools in France and in Spain and have served as an external examiner and validation panel member in a number of Irish business schools. Prior to commencing the role of Head of Organisation Studies in the School of Management, People and Organisations (2022) I was Assistant Head of the School of Marketing (2020-2022)
I currently oversee the BSc Business & Management and BSc Business & Law programmes in the School and continue to teach on the Executive MBA programme.
My research interests focus on marketing regulation and social/public health marketing, particularly in the context of the alcohol industry and have acted a reviewer for journals in this space. I am currently supervising several PhDs in this area and am actively seeking other PhD candidates. I have been invited to give expert testimony to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children in the context of the Public Health (Alcohol) Act, and have similarly advised the HSE, the Institute of Public Health, Alcohol Action Ireland, the Oireachtas Cross Party Group on Alcohol Misuse, the Alcohol Health Alliance and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer on issues relating to marketing regulation. I was appointed by the Minister for Health and Children to the Public Health Alcohol Research Group within the Department of Health and Children (2019-2023) and have regularly contributed to news media on this topic.
Outside of the University I have acted as an expert court witness in a number of marketing/branding/intellectual property cases and have advised a number of charities on their fundraising, media and market research strategies.
