Real-World Solutions: TU Dublin Graduate Students Master Sustainability Reporting

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) introduced by the European Union is driving new standards for businesses to disclose their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts. However, many Irish companies are struggling to align with these regulations due to a lack of skills in key areas like carbon accounting and climate risk analysis. A recent PwC Ireland survey highlighted that 27% of businesses have yet to start preparing for CSRD compliance, underscoring the urgency of addressing this gap.

At TU Dublin Graduate Business School, we are addressing this challenge by integrating real-world sustainability projects into our curriculum. As part of our MBA course, students are collaborating with the Irish Screen Sustainability Guild to conduct climate-scenario analysis for the Irish screen industry, directly applying CSRD standards. This hands-on experience reflects the benefit of studying at TU Dublin—the University where learning meets the real world—as students gain practical skills in sustainability reporting while making a tangible impact in the industry.

Similarly, in the Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainability Leadership course, students are learning about CSRD reporting by identifying climate-related risks and opportunities across a range of Irish-based industries, including aviation, agriculture, and technology companies. These practical case studies equip students with the tools to assess real-world sustainability challenges, blending theoretical learning with practical application.

By embedding industry collaboration and practical learning into our courses, TU Dublin ensures graduates are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of sustainability reporting and lead the way in advancing sustainable business practices across Ireland.
