Come and join us for a sustainability and climate action escape room adventure! Join forces with others and collaborate to solve different puzzles at different levels to get clues. Once you solve all the puzzles correctly, use the code to escape and win prizes.
The sustainability team will outline the challenge of reducing the carbon emissions of students and staff commuting to TU Dublin. Students will then work in groups to explore the research on how students and staff travel to campus, and give feedback on their own choices and challenges on transport.
Join TU Dublin's Student Volunteering coordinator in a very special place, located a stone's throw from Grangegorman, The Sanctuary Meditation Centre, for a tour of the biodiversity field and for a mindful session in The Sanctuary labyrinth. You will be invited to consider positive actions you might take to combat the climate crisis and the relevant UNs Sustainable Development Goals throughout the afternoon.
Join TU Dublin and An Taisce to explore biodiversity on the Tallaght campus grounds. We’ll start with a short introductory lecture on biodiversity, featuring images of local animal and plant life on the Tallaght campus. You’ll get an overview of planned biodiversity projects for 2023 (including wildflowers) and then a biodiversity tour of the 18 hectare Tallaght campus. You’ll be given a map of the campus and challenged to discover plant and animal life - and upload photos of what you find to the National Biodiversity Database.
Are you a passionate about reducing waste? Is shopping local your default? Do you thrive on thrift? Then this activity will be right up your street - get to know the area around the Grangegorman campus and learn from community group Connecting Cabra who work to embed circular economy locally.
Why is this important? - The world has provided us with an abundance of natural resources, however accelerated human consumption and production activity has exploited these resources beyond what our world can provide. We need to revert to more sustainable consumption and production practices - this can be achieved by reducing, sharing, repairing, reusing, refurbishing, recycling, and finding ways to avoid landfill.
There are many people and businesses locally working in a ‘circular’ manner already, such as those who repair shoes, fix up bikes and mend appliances, those who are refurbishing furniture, giving clothing a new lease of live, and those who sell second hand goods. Our community is a vibrant hub for sustainability activity.
The challenge - As part of this exciting workshop, students will work with Connecting Cabra to identify, map and promote circular economy businesses around the Grangegorman campus and visit local shops who promote the reduce, reuse, and recycle approach to consumption and production. Students will use social media promotional tools with the business, and finally get lunch in a local café where lunch vouchers will be provided.
Students will visit Workday, a global tech company, in their offices close to Grangegorman. The software development team will demonstrate software they have developed to analyse the sustainability impact of an organisation’s purchases. Students will work in teams to explore how this software can be used.
Local chef, Seaneen Sullivan, will outline the Chef’s Manifesto which empowers chefs to be advocates for a sustainable food system. Students will then break into groups and each group will visit and eat at a local artisan café and restaurant around the Grangegorman campus (lunch vouchers will be provided). They will then create a short video about sustainability in the café.
Join the Men’s Health Forum in Ireland for a 3-hour action-focused workshop. Learn more about young men’s health issues - especially within the university setting - and undertake an interactive group work challenge to generate practical resources that can be used to highlight men’s health, ahead of International Men’s Day in November 2023. Students of all gender identities are welcome to take part.
Students will first tour Dalymount, home of Bohemians FC, close to Grangegorman. They will then work with the Bohemians FC sustainability team to re-imagine recycling and food waste management in Dalymount on match days.
Working with Global Action Plan in their community garden in the Blanchardstown campus. Students will explore how community gardens can contribute to health and wellbeing, circular economy, reduced inequalities. Students will also contribute to the planting and design of spaces in the garden.
Green Dragon Pitch Challenge
Dublin City Council has recently published our draft local authority climate action plan (CAP) – Climate Neutral Dublin for public consultation. As part of the public consultation period which runs from September 15th to October 31st we are asking people to review the draft plan and provide input. This workshop is an opportunity for DCC to engage with you to learn about your vision for Dublin and how we might strengthen the actions in our draft CAP, and get your ideas for climate action in the city.
