What is meant by 'HyFlex'?
The agreed definition at TU Dublin is:
"A HyFlex module is offered in-person on-campus; synchronously online; and asynchronously online, at the same time. The students are usually* free to choose their modality from week to week or topic to topic, therefore a student can choose to be an in-person on-campus learner only, a synchronous remote learner only, an asynchronous remote learner only, or a flexible learner who exercises a degree of choice of modality each week or topic. All teaching, learning and assessment experiences are designed and delivered in an equitable manner.
* There may be individual module requirements to attend mandated practical sessions as appropriate"
What is the HyFlex Community of Practice all about?
The HyFlex Community of Practice (CoP) acts as a valuable support, on many different levels, for staff who are engaging with the HyFlex mode of delivery. Through scheduled meetings, and the use of collaborative channels in a dedicated MS Team between meetings, CoP members meet like-minded peers to discuss different pedagogical and technological approaches being taken in HyFlex classrooms across the university and the learnings from this sharing of experiences is invaluable. It is also through the CoP that members engage in continuing professional development opportunities through guest speakersand targeted workshops on topics of their choice. Community members also draw on their expertise and experiences to gather data to contribute to the growing body of literature in this space and to the development of related policies and strategies for TU Dublin, as well as to develop practical guides and other resources for use within their community.
Who faciltiates the CoP and how can I join?
There are five facilitators of this CoP:
- Dr Frances Boylan
- Dr Adrienne Fleming
- Kathleen Brosnan
- Gerard Stockil
- Thomas Murphy
You can contact any of the facilitators if you would like to join the community and they will invite you to the MS Team for the CoP.
What events/workshops are planned for 2024/25?
There's a great lineup of events and workshops, and other activities too, planned for community members over the '24/'25 academic year. These will be advertised to CoP members through the HyFlex CoP MS Team. Guest speaker sessions open to all staff will be advertised to all staff by email.
Can I access some resources and guides around building an effective HyFlex module?
The following guides will help you design effective HyFlex modules but engaging with members of the HyFlex CoP who have already taught in this environment is highly recommended.
