Community Engaged Research Projects
Pupils in 5th and 6th classes have the opportunity to engage with TU Dublin students and lecturers through Community Engaged Research Projects including Seeds of Science, Slice of Science and Switch on STEM.
The TU Dublin students are divided into small groups which develop different short interactive activities for the primary school children to engage in. These are delivered in the form of a Science Fair for the children. The 3rd level groups present their STEM related activities to the visiting primary classes.
The pupils benefit from the projects:
- Through visiting the campus and seeing what happens in a university
- Engaging with 3rd level students and getting an insight into 3rd level subject material.
- Learning more about STEM topics
There are also numerous benefits for the TU Dublin students who get involved including:
- Team building opportunities – particularly for 1st year students
- Developing their communication skills, organisational skills and teaching skills.
- Adding overall to their graduate skills portfolio
