Community Outreach

This workstream focuses on expanding on the pathways available for adults from under-represented groups to access Higher Education.

This includes:

Taste of TU Dublin

This is a half-day session for adult learners who are interested in progressing to third level and who would benefit from understanding the supports and assistance available to students. It is a great opportunity to visit our campuses, meet lecturers and current TU Dublin students, find out what’s involved in courses and the roles they can lead to. This facilitates attendees to experience university life, recognise that courses have a practical, hands-on element and discover the range of subjects on offer. These workshops increase participants’ knowledge and attendance can help them when they are making important choices about their future studies.

Adult Learners' Week

During Adult Learners’ Week in March, we organise information sessions for anyone thinking about returning to education. These sessions provide tips on choosing the right courses and highlights the financial supports available. These sessions take place on the Tallaght, Grangegorman and Blanchardstown campuses.

Education Pathways for International Protection Applicants and Refugees

This interactive information session is specifically for university access and community practitioners who are currently working with international protection applicants and refugees. The workshop aims to demystify the terminology of the international protection process and clarify the educational options for international protection applicants and refugees both before and after they receive a decision on their application.

Information Morning for Traveller and Roma Communities

This morning highlights the range of educational opportunities available within TU Dublin and showcases pathways to education for people from Traveller and Roma Communities. It also provided an opportunity for TU Dublin to strengthen our links with community organisations.

Preparation Workshops for Mature Students

These are for incoming mature students who have accepted a place on a TU Dublin course and who are about to begin an undergraduate course or the Access Foundation Programme.  The workshops run for two days in August  on the Tallaght, Grangegorman and Blanchardstown campuses.  They are designed to increase mature students’ confidence and provide them with the knowledge they need when returning to education. During the workshops, students get the opportunity to learn about the financial supports and assistance available when returning to university. Participants avail of a range of workshops including academic writing and IT workshops, while also getting to know their fellow students.

Attendees get an opportunity to taste a delicious four-course meal which is cooked and served by our Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management students.
