Have you completed year 3 or your degree or completed the first two terms of your postgraduate course in TU Dublin? Thinking of starting up a business, or curious how a start-up company works? If so, check out the IMMERSE start-up summer internship programme, an opportunity to work with, and learn from, great start-up companies. To apply, check the list of available internships below and submit your application before the closing date, 29 April 2024 12noon. 

What is IMMERSE?

An IMMERSE internship provides you with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, while learning directly from entrepreneurs on a day-to-day basis. It enhances your CV and experience for when you graduate and enter the job market. Participating enterprises include new and early-stage enterprises that have been established through the TU Dublin and Guinness Enterprise Centre enterprise incubation initiatives.

Once you successfully complete the internship you will receive a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Certificate in Start-up Internship (level 8).

The IMMERSE Internship is:

• Designed as a summer internship, meaning that you will have an opportunity to work with a start-up or early-stage enterprise for an 8–12 weeks period.
• A paid placement.
• In addition to clearly defined roles and tasks, you will get an in-company mentor assigned to you, who will support and guide you throughout your internship.

How can I qualify for my CPD Certificate in Start-up Internship?

• You earn your CPD certificate by successfully completing a minimum of 8 weeks of your internship. Satisfactory completion of the CPD Certificate also requires you to complete a weekly reflection log and presentation.

What are the benefits of an internship in a start-up? 

• An internship with a start-up or early-stage enterprise provides you with direct access to the entrepreneur or entrepreneurial team.
• In a start-up internship you will have exposure to most areas of the enterprise with opportunities to work in multiple roles.
• Start-ups, particularly university start-ups, are often where innovative ideas are commercialised.
• Unlike at a larger company where the intern’s work can more easily be overlooked, in a smaller organisation everyone’s work is essential and the mentor or supervisor will see, and evaluate your work, providing personal feedback over the course of the internship. 

Who can apply? 

TU Dublin students from any school, faculty or campus are eligible to apply for the paid internships.

• Undergraduate students must have completed Year 3 of their level 7 or level 8 programme at the time of commencement of the internship.
• Postgraduate students must have completed the first two terms of their programme at the time of commencement of the internship.

3. I am an International Student, can I apply?

Yes you can, subject to holding your Stamp 2 Visa.

The Stamp 2 indicates permission to study a full-time course on the official Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP) for a specified period, subject to conditions. Under current visa regulations, students in possession of a Stamp 2 visa are entitled to work 20 hours per week during term time and up to 40 hours per week from the 15th December till the 15th January and between June and September.
